ICAO hosted, once again, a successful IAWA Montreal Connect sponsored by ICAO, ACI and IATA, on 17 May in ICAO Headquarters, Montreal, Canada, in the margins of the ICAO/ACI Wildlife Strike Hazard Reduction Symposium.
This event connected 96 professional women and some male colleagues supporters of gender equality in aviation from ICAO (33), ACI World (11), IATA (34) and IAWA Members (12), among others.
The messages of Ms Angela Gittens, Director General of ACI World, Ms Jiarong Yan, Chief of the Office of the ICAO Secretary General, IAWA Member Kristina Schneider, Senior Director, Operations and Learning Services, Aviation Strategies International, (thanks Kristina!!), Mr Gilberto Lopez Meyer, IATA Senior Vice President for Safety & Flight Operations, and Ms Annie Wen, ICAO/IAWA Scholarship recipient were very inspiring.
We celebrated the 90th Anniversary of Charles A. Lindbergh first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean in May 1927 and supported the Dreams Soar Global STEM Solo Flight project (http://dreamssoar.org/) by having as a guest of honour its founder, Shaesta Waiz, the first female civilian Afghan pilot become the second woman (and the youngest) to fly around the world solo, almost exactly 90 years after Lindbergh. The attendees were inspired by technology developments in aviation and raised awareness for gender equality and the achievements of women in aviation.
A special thanks to Annie Wen, our ICAO/IAWA Scholarship recipient. She created a beautiful event that will stay in our memories for the year to come.
