GEWN in partnership with IAWA hosted a moderated discussion consisting of 4 key panel members and in depth participation from the Audience. The focus of the discussion was how do we develop careers and connections for women in Aviation, a traditionally male dominated industry.

It is generally considered that the aviation is an industry for men and the number of women pilots around the word is an evidence. Just to consider a fact: just the 6% of the total of licenses of pilots in the general aviation of the United States of America have been issued to women. Over 30 IAWA members and friends attended the Santiago Connect held on June 20th at the offices of Carey y Cia. The breakfast Connect featured remarks by David Dueñas, Head of the Chile Legal Department of Civil Aviation, about Liberalization of the Civil Aviation Industry in Chile. In addition to the support of Carey y Cia, individuals from LATAM Airlines, Jetsmart, Sky Airlines, and Air Canada assisted with planning the event.
On June 21, 2017, over 60 IAWA members and friends gathered for a reception at the Paris Air Show. IAWA thanks Airbus for again hosting an IAWA reception at Le Bourget. Special thanks to IAWA Board member Katherine Bennett, Jennifer Ouarrag and everyone at Airbus for their work to make the 2017 reception a huge success. Airbus is a long-time supporter of IAWA and a partner in IAWAs mission to advance women in aviation and aerospace.
On Tuesday, June 27th, IAWA members were invited to attend the Welcome Reception during the Transatlantic Aviation Issues Executive Forum in Brussels, Belgium. The event hosts (the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), the International Association of Airport Executives (IAAE), and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA)) invited local IAWA members to join their members at this prestigious event. IAWA, in partnership with IATA Americas, hosted a luncheon during the IATA Wings of Change Conference that was held in Miami, May 2-3, 2017. Alina Nassar, President-Elect was also invited to participate in the panel: “Preparing the Next Generation of Aviation Leaders”, where she discussed the role women play in the aviation and aerospace industries and areas of opportunity to motivate and develop women in technical and operational fields.
