Maria Garton

Maria Garton is currently General Counsel of Signature Aviation, plc, a FTSE 250 company providing aviation support and aftermarket services, primarily in the Business and General Aviation (B&GA) market, with global operations, more than 5,300 employees and more than 400 fixed base operations (FBOs) world-wide. In her current role, which she has held since 2018, Maria leads a team of lawyers and legal professionals that provide legal and compliance advice and support to the business. Prior to her current role, Maria served as Director & Associate General Counsel, Global Transactions & Compliance for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, where she handled the legal and regulatory aspects of international transactions for the sale, maintenance and upgrade of the F-35, F-16, C-130 and other Lockheed Martin platforms. Before that, for nearly five years, Maria served as General Counsel to both Strata Manufacturing, a composite aerostructures manufacturer, and Horizon Flight Academy, a civilian and military flight training academy, both located in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Maria began her legal career working in project and international finance law at Dewey Ballantine LLP in New York City and then at Hogan Lovells LLP in Washington, DC. Maria earned her Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School in 2006, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. She earned her Bachelor of Science, with distinction, from the University of Virginia (McIntire School of Commerce) in 2002. Maria is fluent in Spanish and enjoys travel and discovering new places with her husband, Ryan, and her two children, Cristina and David.
