Berenice, Learning Solutions Engineer, Airbus Hamburg

Airbus would be delighted to offer those IAWA delegates attending the Berlin Conference, a guided tour of the Airbus Hamburg site, on the afternoon of Tuesday 7th November 2017.

Hamburg, the headquarters of Airbus Commercial in Germany and the largest Airbus site in Germany, employs around 12,500 people and plays a key role in the development and manufacturing of all Airbus aircraft. The company is also one of the biggest employers in the region.

Hamburg is the home of the A320 Family programme management. Structural assembly and equipping of fuselage sections as well as final assembly take place here. The site also serves as the logistics hub for Airbus’ final assembly lines outside Europe in China (Tianjin) and the US (Mobile). All major aircraft components are collected and shipped from Hamburg.

The plant at Hamburg-Finkenwerder is also home to Airbus’ A380 major component assembly hall, which houses the structural assembly and the equipping of the forward and complete rear fuselage sections. Following final assembly in Toulouse, the A380s are flown to Hamburg where they are fitted with their customers’ exclusive cabin interiors and painted in one of the two high-tech A380 paint shops. This is followed by ground and flight test activities and final delivery to customers from Hamburg or Toulouse.

Hamburg also plays a key role in the A330 and A350 XWB programmes. As for the A380, the forward and the rear fuselage sections are manufactured and equipped in Hamburg and delivered to their respective final assembly lines in Toulouse.

In the engineering domain, key competences in Hamburg revolve mainly around the development of fuselage structure and the design, innovation and systems of the cabin. For all Airbus aircraft families the airline’s individual cabin definition is managed from Hamburg.
