Member Highlight: Maral Velmyradova

Born and raised in Turkmenistan, Maral Velmyradova faced significant challenges as a woman striving for equality. Her childhood was marked by rigorous academic and musical pursuits, attending both elementary school and a musical academy simultaneously. Her mother's encouragement to focus on education, fearing the limitations of a life without it, fueled Maral's determination. This drive led her to win a full scholarship to a university in Russia, where she graduated with an MA in Publishing Business and Editing.

Maral's journey continued with a transformative summer program in Europe, earning a certificate from The Fund for American Studies and Charles University in Prague. Returning home, she married, moved to the capital Ashgabat, and built a career with Turkish Airlines. Rising through the ranks, she eventually decided to pursue further education in the United States. Relocating with her husband and young son, Maral is now working towards a master’s degree in aerospace business analytics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, maintaining a 3.8 GPA while also gaining practical experience as an Employee Safety & Health Intern at American Airlines.

Maral's resilience and determination have been evident throughout her journey, from her early struggles to her current academic and professional pursuits in the United States. Her story is one of overcoming obstacles and seizing opportunities, showcasing the power of perseverance and the importance of family support in achieving one's dreams.
