IAWA Receives Regional Recognition for Advancing Gender Equality in Aviation
August 2025 – The International Aerospace Womens Association (IAWA) has been recognized with a Participation Award by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Regional Safety Oversight Cooperation System (SRVSOP), and the EU-LAC APP II Aviation Partnership Project in acknowledgment of its contributions to advancing gender equity and inclusion in civil aviation across Latin America and the Caribbean.
This recognition follows IAWA’s submission to the Excellence in Gender Equality in Aviation award, part of a larger EU-LAC project supported by the European Union. As part of this honor, IAWA has been invited to send a representative to the upcoming Women Summit Meeting, organized by the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (CLAC) and hosted in Guatemala from August 18–20, 2025. The summit will bring together leaders and changemakers in the aviation sector to promote dialogue and action around gender inclusion in the industry.
“This recognition underscores IAWA’s growing role in the region and the dedication of our members to building a more equitable and inclusive future for the aerospace and aviation industry,” said Maria Eugenia Yabar, Chair of the IAWA Latin America Subcommittee and Head of the Aerospace and Aviation Practice Area at Estudio Olaechea in Peru. “We’re honored to join this important summit and contribute to meaningful progress for women in the industry.”
IAWA’s participation in the summit highlights the organization’s continued commitment to shaping a more inclusive future in aerospace around the world.
“IAWA’s mission has always been to champion and connect women leaders in aviation and aerospace worldwide, and this recognition affirms the impact of our collective efforts,” said Debra Santos, IAWA President and retired Boeing Executive. “We look forward to representing our members in Guatemala and fostering partnerships that drive positive change in the industry.”
